BOOK REVIEW - History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

This book was insane! I first started this and haven't given it much thought especially because I haven't read anything by Adam before (big mistake). I finished this in two days because I was really anticipating how the story would end. It had me from laughing like an idiot to full on tears in minutes.

History Is All You Left Me is about two guys, Theo and Griffin who have been best friends for a while, then their friendship started taking a turn into a full-on relationship. The pair break up and Theo gets another boyfriend, Jackson. Time passes and Theo unfortunately dies in a terrible accident that has both Griffin and Jackson meet at Theo's funeral in New York. They aren't fans of each other and they've always wanted to cut each other out, but they got over their feud to form an unlikely friendship so they would comfort each others' heartache over their mutual love for Theo.

I loved the diversity of the book. It has the LGBTQ+ characters, one of the main characters has OCD which was portrayed perfectly well, the self-discovery aspect was on point.

I obviously gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars because of the emotions it sparked in me, it could have been a 5 out of 5, but the direction that this book went into was not in my favor I think... The writing style flowed so easily and Adam has this distinct way of writing that makes me want to devour all of his other books. I recommend this to absolutely everyone, it's a great fast-paced read that had me thinking. It includes love and friendship and many other beautiful things so go read it NOW.

If you have read this, comment down below your thoughts! Would love to hear from you and recommend me similar books to this because I thoroughly enjoyed it.

THE FEEEELSSSS!!! Theo and Griffin's relationship was perfect, it was so cute it had me smiling all the time I was reading about their history and to see Griffin so engrossed in his sadness over Theo made me have actual tears in my eyes. I loved how they came out to each other, I loved their first kiss and how Griffin was all nervous around him. I loved every single detail about this right to the point where I knew future Theo had a boyfriend and I was so mad at Theo for breaking up with Griff (or that's what I thought because Griffin was still madly in love with him) and I hated Jackson's guts for intervening between these two and being an obstacle for why they couldn't just easily get back together. #TeamGriffin

As the story progressed, I came to terms with the fact that Theo is a major asshole who wanted to have it all, he kept Griffin waiting and it wasn't healthy for him to tell Griffin upright that if he came to California he'd leave Jackson for him.. and later on we find out that Theo was so allegedly in love with Jackson that he let him in on the different kinds of kisses thing and why would someone do that? I don't hate Theo but I was so disappointed and heartbroken. I've always thought that Theo was so in love with Griffin that he just found a Griff substitute in California to be use and be with for the time being which isn't okay, but I was rooting for this relationship so hard.

Let's move on to the Wade aspect of the story. I knew he had a thing for Griffin ever since that Cedric Diggory key chain! He mentioned it earlier when they both got him the wrong gift and then when Wade actually did it, it was clear to me who paid attention to him more and who was actually worthy of Griffin's love.

It was sad to see Griffin always waiting on Theo, always obsessive over him in a way that wasn't fair for him because he deserved so much better, but I know how it is being with someone or being attached to someone who isn't healthy for you and you become so blinded and couldn't see the truth because you're just too in love. It's sad but it's a road to self-discovery and I'm glag Griffin went through that so he could learn and grow and know his self-worth.

Review | Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

Goodreads Synopsis

She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands.

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mystical beasts still roam the wild and barren wastes, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinni still practice their magic. But there's nothing mystical or magical about Dustwalk, the dead-end town that Amani can't wait to escape from.

Destined to wind up "wed or dead," Amani’s counting on her sharpshooting skills to get her out of Dustwalk. When she meets Jin, a mysterious and devastatingly handsome foreigner, in a shooting contest, she figures he’s the perfect escape route. But in all her years spent dreaming of leaving home, she never imagined she'd gallop away on a mythical horse, fleeing the murderous Sultan's army, with a fugitive who's wanted for treason. And she'd never have predicted she'd fall in love with him...or that he'd help her unlock the powerful truth of who she really is.

3.5/5 stars

Amani is a girl that lives in a Dustwalk where nothing ever happens, where she doesn't feel happy but trapped. She wants to do everything to get out of there so she can accomplish great things. Since she was young, she taught herself how to shoot and she is very freaking good at it. The story begins in Pistol Pit where Amani is dressed up as a boy so she can win a shooting competition and there, she meets a foreigner guy and the story takes off from there.

This is a western book mixed in with some middle eastern elements which I loved, because the names are Arabic and I'm Arabic as well so that was cool! I loved the world, it is centered around Djinni and it's nothing like I've ever read before. My first instinct while reading this book is that it is catchy, but I found it so hard to grasp the world. I was ever so confused and I found that the author dumped all the information about the world through a story and wanted to DNF it, but I was shocked with some revelations that I couldn't let it down.

Halfway through and I still didn't get the political aspect of the story. I found that the author didn't do that well with the explanation of the world and that is the only reason my rating was low despite loving everything else about this book. Personally, I find info dumping to be the worst, but I didn't mind it too much when we came to the middle of the book. It didn't ruin it for me which I found surprising - except for the fact that I thought about DNFing it.

Let's come to the romance. I loved loved the romance in this one. It wasn't prominent and the story didn't revolve around the romance which I loved. The two love interests in this book were great companions which perfect chemistry. Amani's love interest who is the foreigner (it's said in the synopsis so its not a spoiler) is just the perfect man. He was so mysterious which is something so admirable when it comes to hot mcs in books. I just need the author to write more about his life before he met Amani PLEASE. I am so interested in his life and we saw little snippets of it through this book, but I just need more.

Since this is the first in a series, the characters weren't fleshed out like how I wanted them to be, but that's okay. Hopefully we get some novellas and some insight into the character's lives more in upcoming books. Amani though was amazing. I loved reading from the perspective of such a bad ass character who is a great shooter and is an on-point leader as well. She took every risk she had the opportunity to take, but her decisions were well thought of. She was reckless, but not dumb which I truly admired.

The writing was impeccable. The book had me hooked from the very first chapter and it says something about how good the author is in capturing your attention. The book was so easy to power through, it was my first book to fully read and enjoy since I'm in a terrible slump. One thing that I really liked was the feminism aspect of the book. No one seems to mention this, but women are so stepped on in this one and it shows how oppressed women are and it's so sad. I really loved seeing a female character not taking shit from everyone for once.

Review | George by Alex Gino

Goodreads Synopsis

BE WHO YOU ARE.

When people look at George, they think they see a boy. But she knows she's not a boy. She knows she's a girl.

George thinks she'll have to keep this a secret forever. Then her teacher announces that their class play is going to be Charlotte's Web. George really, really, REALLY wants to play Charlotte. But the teacher says she can't even try out for the part . . . because she's a boy.

With the help of her best friend, Kelly, George comes up with a plan. Not just so she can be Charlotte -- but so everyone can know who she is, once and for all.

This is about a  boy called George who is actually a girl. This girl struggles throughout the book to tell anyone who she actually is. George's class play going to be Charlotte's Web. George feels that she is the most suitable for the part and it is her biggest dream to get the role of Charlotte, but she can't.. because she is a boy. On the outside at least.. So Kelly, George's best friend, helps her out with a plan so she can achieve her dream of being Charlotte and for everyone to see her for who she is.

I loved loved this book. I would have given it a 5 star rating if it wasn't for the simple language, but it is a children's book so it's not like I expected too much of it. I was SO wrong.

This book didn't feel like a children's book at all. I loved how mature the characters seemed for their age. Especially George, she was seriously the most mature 10 year old that I have ever read about. The notion of creating a children's book with such a taboo topic is unbelievable to me. I'm so glad that it is 2015 and the children of today need to understand what it means to be a transgender. This is being educated about the people around them. I wasn't introduced to such topics until I was 13 or something of that sort.

I think it is so helpful to those who struggle with the same issue to know who they are at a young age. It's so sad to me when people come out at 25 or even later, because they aren't just accepted by the people surrounding them. Imagine being unable to me yourself.. that is tough.

This book gave me all the feels and I actually had tears in my eyes. Everyone kept bullying George for how he looks and how he acts. It infuriated me to no end that people just assume and judge like that, I was rooting for George just to be himself and be happy throughout the whole book. It saddened me to see someone in such a position and what is more sad, that it is true. People do struggle and go through so much.

I loved Kelly and George's mom. They both were so super supportive of her, I really liked them and how acceptant they were of George.

The writing was tough to get into at first, I struggled so much and even put the book down a little bit and picked it up again. The book is told in third person which always portrayed George as a she. It meant that she wasn't a boy trying to be a girl, but in fact a girl and everyone else couldn't see it. I whizzed through the book once I got used to the writing. It took me 2 hours and that haven't happened in so long- concerning my slump.

I would recommend this book to everyone! I loved it so much.

Review | The Passenger by Lisa Lutz

Goodreads Synopsis:

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Spellman Files series, Lisa Lutz’s latest blistering thriller is about a woman who creates and sheds new identities as she crisscrosses the country to escape her past: you’ll want to buckle up for the ride!

In case you were wondering, I didn’t do it. I didn’t have anything to do with Frank’s death. I don’t have an alibi, so you’ll have to take my word for it...

Forty-eight hours after leaving her husband’s body at the base of the stairs, Tanya Dubois cashes in her credit cards, dyes her hair brown, demands a new name from a shadowy voice over the phone, and flees town. It’s not the first time.

She meets Blue, a female bartender who recognizes the hunted look in a fugitive’s eyes and offers her a place to stay. With dwindling choices, Tanya-now-Amelia accepts. An uneasy―and dangerous―alliance is born.

It’s almost impossible to live off the grid today, but Amelia-now-Debra and Blue have the courage, the ingenuity, and the desperation, to try. Hopscotching from city to city, Debra especially is chased by a very dark secret…can she outrun her past?

With heart-stopping escapes and devious deceptions, The Passenger is an amazing psychological thriller about defining yourself while you pursue your path to survival. One thing is certain: the ride will leave you breathless.

4/5 stars
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The more I read mystery books, the more I fall in love with this genre and this book could have easily made it to my all time favorites. One thing that didn't stick with me is why did Tanya Dubois leave her husband's dead body all along? There is absolutely nothing to make people even consider her a person of interest. It just was weird leaving that's all. One thing that I really loved about this book is that it read like a movie, the writing flowed beautifully and the events were smartly interwoven together. I loved every minute of this book that I read 80% of it in a sitting and the other 20% in another.

Tanya- or Amelia, our main protagonist struck me as dumb at first. I couldn't quite understand her actions, she wasn't as smart as Amy from Gone Girl and she didn't have that criminal mind that the mystery MC mainly has. I felt like she was just impulsive and her actions weren't calculated as much as they should be, since she is a woman on the run.

I loved the sequence of actions, the author was hinting at stuff all along the book. Eventually, everything just unraveled and it shocked me. Whatever the author did with putting the shock factor in the end and building up to it throughout the whole thing was indeed smart.

I mistrusted and should have trusted a lot of characters in this book. I just didn't know who was good and who was terrible. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and I wanted to know more about the characters and their history and all. I think the author should make a novella or a prologue about Blue's life because I would love to look deep into her past and she was always a mystery for us readers.

The characters grew on me, no matter how untactful Tanya was at first, I admired her a lot. Blue was smart. She was the smartest character in this book and I loved how smart she was. Blue was the epitome of the perfect criminal mind. I loved all the characters in this, with their good and their bad.

This book -although a mystery- had some romance elements and it tugged at my heart. I loved the family dynamics in this and the portrayal of messed up parents, siblings and friends. I connected to some of the events that occurred in this, even though it is an adult book. I would recommend this to everyone to read. It's absolutely amazing.

I really want to get into spoilers, so if you'd want that let me know! I'm also scared of saying more because I'm afraid I'll say more than I should.

Review | Never Never: Part 1 & 2 by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Goodreads Summary

Best friends since they could walk. In love since the age of fourteen.
Complete strangers since this morning.

He'll do anything to remember. She'll do anything to forget.

*4.5/5 stars*

A girl, Charlie suddenly doesn't remember who she is, where she is and what happened to her. She soon discovers that she has a boyfriend - Silas- who she later finds out that he as well doesn't have any recollections of who he is and what has happened to him.

Charlie and Silas try to unravel the mystery behind their strange and sudden memory loss and if this alone doesn't intrigue you to read this fantastic book, then I don't know what will. This is added to the list of my favorite Colleen Hoover books, along with Confess & Maybe Someday

The writing is impeccable and if you haven't read anything by this talented lady, then I sure as hell recommend it. I read this novella and the second one both in one sitting. I couldn't put them down and the cliffhangers they both end on made me want more. I can't emphasize on how addictive these novellas are and I need the 3rd one NOOOWW. Why did Colleen and Tarryn torture us readers like thattt?!!!

My favorite of the characters was definitely Silas, he was smart and very attractive. He always kept his shit together and had his moments. Charlie, I liked, but she was kind of dumb by the end of this and did some stuff that greatly angered me.

Overall, I LOVED this book! It is soo gripping from the very first page and I was super intrigued by it. It is quite Mara Dyer-esque to me and I loved it SO much. Def RECOMMEND ITTT!!!!

Spoiler Alert: don't read the summary or proceed further than here if you haven't read the first book because the summary/ what is coming next might spoil you.

Goodreads Summary:

“Never forget that I was your first real kiss. Never forget that you’ll be my last.

And never stop loving me between all of them.

Never stop, Charlie. Never forget.”

Silas races against time as more truths unravel, while others twist tighter together. And now, the stakes are higher as Silas’ control slips and others begin to point fingers. Charlie is in trouble and he must be the one to bridge the chasm between their past and their present. Because somewhere between I love yous and Never Nevers and Never Agains, a truth they can't imagine, beckons to be found.
“Where are you, Charlie?”

Looooved this book as well! Not as much as the first one because I still am not satisfied and didn't get the answers I wanted, but it was amazing. It also ended on a terrible cliffhanger and I NEED THE THIRD ONE!! When is it coming out? does anybody know?

SPOILERS of book 1 & 2
(highlight to view)

The frustration of knowing what happened to them killed me. We still didn't know what happened to both of them, but the revelation of it happening to them every 24 hours was insane! It kept me dying for book 2 and when I didn't get some answers I wanted to throw my phone across the room and drown in my sorrows. I was super annoyed with the authors for doing this to us.

The parents in these book are so dumb. Charlie's mom is an alcoholic and is a jerk to her daughters and she was so out of this world. Literally. I hate seeing such careless mothers, but it made me feel for her children and I get why they act out all the time, with their dad in prison, I'm guessing it is really hard on them and I saw that. Especially since Charlie is THAT attached to her dad. I didn't like the relationship between Charlie and Janette because it reminded me of mine and my sisters. We never get along and we are always fighting and teasing each other. Little do we know, we actually need each other through thick and thin and that's how it should go.

Silas' dad was a huge a-hole. He was abusive and had anger issues, he put Charlie's dad in trouble and made his sons hate him which is by far the worst thing that can ever happen to a parent. I loved how Silas paid him back by taking the documents, it backfired on Charlie, but at least he helped her and that is such loyalty that amazes me.

I hated the cheating aspects of both Charlie and Silas. I didn't get why Charlie would do that, but I guess that Silas was doing it because Avril was Brian's sister and he wanted to pay him back by screwing his sister I believe. He wanted to know stuff about Brian and Charlie from his sister, it doesn't justify using Avril and his disloyalty, but it's kind of cute.

I loved the tattoos that they both have of each other's names. It is so cute, I can't. Such commitment and true love even though they both are cheaters, but I think they always wind up together no matter what the circumstances.

Okay Cora and Janice are SO creepy! I don't know why they held Charlie captive and why does Charlie represent such a huge scare factor to her friends? Why are they scared of her? I still don't get it. And why would the shrimp do that? I pieced that her memory loss happened when the shrimp dropped her books, I think she has a hand in what has happened, granted that her mom is a tarot card reader and such. My guess is that Cora jinxed them both to seek revenge on Charlie and maybe Silas' dad asked for a hoax on them to make them forget each other or something? I would expect that from him.

I need to see some of their back stories and the fued between their parents, that would be epic! Their romance is so sweet! And I LOOOVE Silas' brother♥

Have you read these books?! Please comment down below your thoughts :)

Have a great day!

Review | Another Day by David Levithan

This book is a companion novel to Every Day by David Levithan, and I highly suggest you reading Every Day before diving into Another Day to get the full impact of the story. I would recommend you refrain from reading this until you do because it contains spoilers to the first book.

Goodreads Summary:

The eagerly anticipated companion to David Levithan’s New York Times bestseller Every Day

In this enthralling companion to his New York Times bestseller Every Day, David Levithan (co-author of Will Grayson, Will Grayson with John Green) tells Rhiannon’s side of the story as she seeks to discover the truth about love and how it can change you.

Every day is the same for Rhiannon. She has accepted her life, convinced herself that she deserves her distant, temperamental boyfriend, Justin, even established guidelines by which to live: Don’t be too needy. Avoid upsetting him. Never get your hopes up.

Until the morning everything changes. Justin seems to see her, to want to be with her for the first time, and they share a perfect day—a perfect day Justin doesn’t remember the next morning. Confused, depressed, and desperate for another day as great as that one, Rhiannon starts questioning everything. Then, one day, a stranger tells her that the Justin she spent that day with, the one who made her feel like a real person . . . wasn’t Justin at all.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest, non-biased review.

The whole novel is written in Rhiannon’s point of view, a girl whose boyfriend acted differently for a day and she then figures out that it wasn’t actually her boyfriend acting, it was A, a soul of a person who takes over bodies and wakes up in a different one everyday.

One thing I love about David Levithan is the diversity he incorporates into his books. The incredible writing is one thing, but the idea behind making a contemporary book so memorable is amazing. This is probably why I gave this book such a high rating. I couldn’t say I didn’t enjoy it, I did, but just because it’s a great story and it’s David Levithan.

In this book, you get to experience the whole thing from Rhiannon’s point of view, starting with figuring out what A is and how she takes it when everything is broken down to her. You get to see how confused she is about her relationship and how all of this affects her emotionally. I went into this one thinking it was a sequel and not knowing what this it is the same story from Rhiannon’s POV, I was greatly disappointed because I would have loved a sequel since I fell in love with the first book. I didn’t mind it-even though I never ever read those, but I continued on reading, then I was kind of disappointed again.

Rhiannon wasn’t my favourite character in the first book, but seeing things from her POV was kind of annoying and it made me dislike the character even more. The way she kept making excuses for Justin’s terrible actions and how weak she was when it came to him is a huge NO. I cannot stand verbal nor physical abuse and the verbal abuse was crystal clear, Justin couldn’t lay hands on her, but his words cut like knives. I felt bad for Rhiannon and I was rooting for her to end it all along and when she finally did I was relieved.

Justin is a huge A--HOLE. I couldn’t justify his actions what-so-ever. I’m glad I got to see his background and his reasoning behind his whip of a tongue, but I couldn’t agree to what he was doing. He constantly insulted Rhiannon and their relationship wasn’t healthy AT ALL. Seeing it from Rhiannon’s POV made me hate him even more than I originally did. He didn’t care what she thought, didn’t care for her nor her feelings, he didn’t even think twice before he acted out on her and used her as a verbal punch bag. He always lashed out on her and directed his anger towards her and she never once stood up to defend herself or even stand in the way of her shattered dignity. When she finally broke free (he actually broke up with her), he called her a whore and ruined her reputation and for what? A simple hug. This just added to him being a jerk and how terrible of a person he is.

We got to experience more characters in this, we were introduced to Rhiannon’s friends and saw their true colours. They are helpful and had her back the whole time, they supported her through thick and thin and I appreciated that a lot.

I loved how Rhiannon loved A unconditionally, she loved him/her for his/her soul and nothing else. She was confused as to the gender of A and how she would wholly love him, but I get it. I felt her confusion and reaction as a reader and we didn’t get to see that side of her in Every Day.

One thing I’m confused about is the ending, if anyone read this or the other book, can you tell me what you fathomed from it? I’m not a hundred percent certain.

Review | The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (Mara Dyer #1)

Goodreads summary:

Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.

She doesn’t believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.
She’s wrong.

4.5 stars

This book seriously hooked me from the very first page, I wanted to read more and I had a hard time putting it down to sleep. The creepy aspect intrigued me, I'm never creeped out easily and I'm into mind-screwing hallucinations. I'll get to that later.. The first thing I noticed and loved about this book is the beautiful, descriptive writing. Michelle Hodkin intended to put the reader in Mara's shoes - lost, confused and clueless. The thin line between sanity and insanity, the mere idea of disbelieving your own mind, it blew me away.

The characters in this book were all lovable with admirable characteristics. Mara with her persistence on holding her ground and trying to unscramble her mind. Noah with his caring, nurturing nature. Daniel, an astute, fatherly persona. Jamie, nothing but a great friend. Clearly though, Noah freaking Shaw was my favorite character, HE IS SO SEXY AND HOT - totally St. Clair Etienne & Daemon Black material. The romance in this one wasn't at all sappy, it focused more on the events of the story more than on the romance that when both characters met, it was nothing but steamy. I loved that!! It balanced perfectly with everything else.

If this book did not have Noah Shaw in it, I wouldn't have been able to conquer it. It's just a spiral of depression and Noah was the sun that broke through the gloominess on a rainy day. I LOVED HIM TOO MUCH!!! Aghh

I thought that this book was your typical paranormal romance, but it's NOT! It's a book that deals with so much more. If you love reading from the pov of an unreliable narrator then it's your cup of tea! Mara believed she was insane and the whole book I was like "trust me honey, you're not the only one going crazy here"

I must say though that the only thing that I disliked about this is that towards the ending, everything confused me. Some important details I just blanked while reading, I don't know if it's me or the book..

THE ENDING RENDERED ME SPEECHLESS. I NEED THE SECOND BOOK. That's all you need to know. I just hope a character makes a re-appearance, a sweet character that I adored.

SPOILERS TIME
(highlight to view)

The first encounter with the creepy Mara ability, the death of Mabel's owner. I freaked out, my mouth literally dropped wide open and I couldn't comprehend how this is possible. When Morales died, I knew that this shit's serious, the stunt with the alligators and the insects too. I was scared of Mara at a point. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!!

The whole thing with the Joseph kidnap, I didn't get. Did Lassiter really do that? But why?!! I think Jude did it to avenge his dead sister Claire. -(So thankfully, Mara didn't kill Lassiter in cold blood for nothing)- But how could he possibly know about Mara's powers and that this had anything to do with her? The Jude revelation had my eyes boggling. ARE YOU SERIOUS

Also the Noah power, WHAT!?!! Their powers are opposites? And how did Noah see Mara before he even met her? I didn't fully get this part. And why the fuck does Mara suck the life out of Noah? This can't be happening. I want them to be together and live happily ever after. (I also read a spoiler about Noah in the last book and if this was true, I won't finish the series. I wanted to kill myself.)

Okay enough with my clueless rambling. I'm sorry about this terrible review, but I'm seriously extremely lost and I cannot chronologically order the events of what's happening. I needed to get what was happening out of my system and I did...

Have a great day people!

Review | Angelfall by Susan Ee

Goodreads Summary

It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

*4.5 stars. I received this copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Penryn, her mother and little sister are on a mission to survive in an apocalyptic world where angels destroyed everything creating tsunamis and earthquakes. They were moving one day when they spotted a bunch of angels fighting on the streets, they were ganged up on one angel and fighting him and due to them outnumbering him, they defeated him and cut off his wings. Penryn saw that and wanted to help the bleeding angel so she threw him his sword that flew out of his hands in the chaos. The other angels didn't like that, so they took her little sister Paige as revenge and flew with her to god knows where. She then sets herself on a journey, with the help of Raffe - the wingless angel - to find her sister.

Susan Ee's writing is impeccable. She has this way of creating the perfect world in my head and not this vague image that you usually get while reading books. This felt so real and I could imagine being in the story and I greatly appreciated that.

The characters were kick ass and awesome! I loved Penryn and her determination to find her sister and get her back, I loved how she was kind of fearless and reckless, yet kept a straight head in a way. She reminded me so much of Katniss in the sense of having the urge to rescue her family and her undying love for her little sister. Her snarky comments had me laughing, she maintained a light mood even though the situation is incredibly serious and that I really liked.

Raffe is another story, he has this self-absorbed facade going on and he thinks highly of himself, but underneath he is an incredible person, or.. angel. I loved the unison between these two and how they can conquer anything together. Raffe is definitely one of my favorite characters now along with Penryn and I SHIP THEM.

Other characters that I REALLY liked where Obi, the freaky mother and Dee-Dum.

Overall, this was a great dystopian and even though I've read A TON of them, this was still original. I haven't had much luck with angel books and this one broke that for me. I definitely recommend it!

PS, I'm currently reading book 2, and I think I'll include the discussion and the spoilers for this one together with the second one. What do you think? If you want me to include spoilers in this review comment down below :)

Review | Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

Goodreads Summary

In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass--and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

I didn't expect to fall in love with this book as much as I did. The world building, the characters and the writing style were absolutely epic! Sarah J Maas did an amazing job creating this world. Celaena Sardothien's parents died when she was young then the king of assassins took her in to train her to be a kick ass assassin. Later, was caught to be sent to a death camp called Endovier for a whole year. The king of Adarlhan decided he needs a personal assassin so he hosted this competition where trained competitors from everywhere come in and take these tests and the one who survives them all wins the position of being his assassin. The contestants are picked to be represented by other people and in Celaena's case, she is representing The Crown Prince.

I loved watching Celaena take the tests and her journey living in the castle and how she dealt with everyone and everything! She was an amazing female character and probably one of my all time favorites. I loved her from almost the very first couple of chapters and she didn't let me down. I kept thinking of Shatter Me while reading this book and I have no idea why, I just received a Shatter Me vibe, but unlike Juliette, Celaena's head was always straight, she rarely doubted herself and she believed that everyone feared her and I admired that about her. She had an air of confidence unlike Juliette who I disliked in the first book.

I loved the love triangle (strangely enough).. Love triangles are a huge red flag for me and it makes me dislike the female character that is stuck in the middle, but this didn't happen at all in this book. It also reminded me of The Hunger Games, but in a fantasy format, meaning some fantasy elements are added in. It was AMAZING and scary and gory.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! Can you please pick it up? I can't talk about this any longer without spoiling it so.. GO READ IT AND COME BACK TO DISCUSS THE SPOILERS WITH ME. K bye♥

DISCUSSION
(contains spoilers, highlight to view)

Am I the only one who kept picturing Dorian as Damon from TVD and Chaol as Stefan? Maybe it has something huge to do with my obsession with Vampire Diaries and the Salvatore brothers, but seriously though! The love triangle and their features.. Come on!!

Sarah J Maas created this intricate story and everything was revealed from there perfectly.. She made Cain and Duke Perrington creepers from the very beginning and the fact that they couldn't be trusted. They were using magic, duh. The thing that irritated me is that the king knows about them using magic and I don't understand it, why would he agree to this?

I hated the king of assassins, he was so cruel to Celaena and he treated children terribly, but I guess we should be grateful for him, since she turned out to be an amazing heroine. I need for her to meet up with him again! Imagine that encounter..

Celaena's background is so interesting to me, with her piano and Sam. What happened?!! I need to know more of her backstory and how she ended up in Endovier. Of course, I'm team Dorian and I would hate for him to be alive.. what if he really is alive though? hahaha NO.

CEDORIAN? I love them, god, they remind me of Elena and Damon and I kept rooting for them the whole time. When he brought her puppies and when he saw her playing the piano.. At the ball when they danced and when they kissed agh I LOVE THEM and it broke my heart when she called it off, but I know they'll be back together. I love Chaol as well, he is like a Stefan to me, I like him as a friend with Elena, but not a boyfriend.. He is a great support system and a trainer, but nothing more.

I loved Nehemia! She was an amazing friend to Celaena and I hate myself for doubting her with Celaena, even for one second. Her loyalty is amazing and to find out that Celaena is a descendant off of Queen Elena was amazing (first off, her name *wink*).

Nox made a great ally, but I didn't like when she was training him, I was like NO Celaena he could beat you in the end! What are you thinking?! I loved her fight with Verin, when she kicked his ass without even using her sword. She is amazing!!! The final duel with Cain was such a pain to read, it lasted forever and it was hard on me to watch Celaena being tossed and turned and kicked around like that, THANKS to Chaol for killing the bastard, but poor Celaena.. Her win was well-deserved.

I'd love to know where this is going and I can't wait to pick up the rest, This would make amazing buddy reads, if you haven't read the second or third books HIT ME UP on twitter or goodreads for a buddy read any time you'd like! :)♥

Book Review: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Goodreads summary:

Can Anna find love in the City of Light?

Anna is happy in Atlanta. She has a loyal best friend and a crush on her coworker at the movie theater, who is just starting to return her affection. So she's not too pleased when her father decides to send her to a boarding school in Paris for her senior year. But despite not speaking a word of French, Anna meets some cool new friends, including the handsome Étienne St. Clair, who quickly becomes her best friend. Unfortunately, he's taken--and Anna might be too. Will a year of romantic near misses end with the French kiss she's been waiting for.

I wasn't in love with this book as many others did. It wasn't the best I've ever read, but I totally related to some of the characters and issues addressed in this -not your average-contemporary book. First of all, I love Paris! It has always been my dream honeymoon destination and it will be. (hopefully). I laughed out loud at some of the situtations that occurred and I loved all the characters. Except for Amanda and Rashmi's sister. Ugh.

Secondly, Stephanie Perkins shed some light on some serious topics, like peer pressure, bullying, betrayal and even family issues. The fact that these problems still followed Anna in France.. it lets you know that you're not alone if you're facing any of these things and someone somewhere out there in the world relates to you. Also, these problems followed Anna in a different country, in a different continent. No one's life is perfect, even the handsome Etienne St Clair. I must say that the portrayal of friendships, relationships and "familyships" made me love the book more than I would have if it was just your typical romance.

All in all, Stephanie shows you that happy endings are not always a cliche and you should wait for your happy ending. THIS BOOK MADE ME HAPPY, read it if you're in a pick me up mood, it'll definitely do the job perfectly.

One thing that I want though is a story in Etienne's POV and his background. I'm more interested in his story and his relationship with his parents more than Anna's. It would've been better if he was the narrator instead of Anna and if they were together earlier in the book! I was waiting for it to happen the whole time and that's why I lowered my rating for this one.

It was very fast paced, the writing is extremely easy and beautiful. I cannot wait to read more of Stephanie's books. I literally was smiling and happy because their relationship is adorable that when I flipped the page and was met with the stupid acknowledgments I was like.. what NOOOOOOO

Now onto the spoilers!

Dear Etienne, where can I find a guy like you? Although I hated that you couldn't get your shit straight with the Ellie situation. Like come on St Clair, it was freaking obvious that Anna liked you back! I get that it would've been a mess if they were together though.. Mer is in between them and this to me, was the biggest obstacle standing in their way. I love how she was cool with it in the end, because it's good for her as well.

My favorite part was when Etienne called Anna beautiful and she tripped. The scene went pretty much as follows..

Etienne: "You're beautiful."
*Anna trips and falls down on the sidewalk* .. OMG I'M A FREAK.

Hahahaha I died..

I loved the "you don't get to choose who you fall in love with" aspect. I totally agree with that statement..

I hope you have a great day guys, and if you read Anna and the French Kiss (which I'm sure you did), make sure to comment down below what you thought of it! Did it live up to the hype surrounding it? :)
