This is an Indian dystopian! If that doesn't sell you on this one, I don't know what else will.. I must say, the Indian culture wasn't much explained in this book, so if you have no clue about India, I think you should make a quick research about it, but I think you'll understand the terms in this book.. The amma is the mother, the appa is the dad. This is pretty much what you need to know - that confused most people - before getting into this book. At first, I was confused by the whole prose/verse alternating POVs and I was like.. I need to read the synopsis. And so I did and I understood that Sudasa's POV is in verse while Kiran's POV is in prose. Keep in mind that Kiran's name wasn't even mentioned until by the end of this book, which irritated me. 

I really admired the feminism aspect, but I hated how women were having the upper hand in everything which depicts our views as feminists. People don't understand that we don't want to be in control, we want gender equality which defines as both men and women having equal rights. I think Holly portrayed that perfectly and how she went against her beliefs to create cruelty towards men instead of towards females to stress on the views on feminism and equality. She did that through extreme eloquence, while using simple and non-complex words. I looved her writing style and I definitely will be picking up books by her in the future. 

The characters were admirable. Sudasa reminded me of Lena from Delirium and Kiran of Alex, which was my favorite dystopian BOOK (not series) and probably somehow still is one of my faves. This - at least to me - is Delirium meets The Hunger Games. I loved how Sudasa insisted on doing the right thing and was sticking up for herself and defying her Nani (her grandma). 

The community and how everything worked bewildered me. Coming from a feminist, I hated how men were being treated and I wanted to slap the women of the society. Men shouldn't be below women and that's not how this should work. I admire Holly for changing up the usual "females are inferior to males" due to a lower birth rate of females. 

I was confused at first, as I mentioned earlier, I didn't get the changing of POVs thing, but that was definitely on me. Strangely enough, I haven't read any books in verse before and this was amazing! I love how short sentences (verses) carry much greater meanings behind them. 

Now onto the characters... Sudasa's parents were extremely admirable, they held onto each other despite the consequences and they pushed Sudasa into doing the right thing and where supportive of her the whole time. She was a strong character and she did whatever her little heart desired. Kiran's Appa was my favorite. His sayings were to live by and I really respected him as a person and his broad mind was inspiring. Kiran, I was in love with. He did everything he could and he kept his head clear of everything until something else came in his way, but it was admirable still. 

Overall, I gave this book 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. It was original, I loved the characters and the writing style was beautiful. This alone makes a good book, add to that an awesome plot line - of course. And the cover.. oh man the cover is GORGEOUS!!!

Book Review | Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Ha, yet another favorite so early in the year. This wondrous beauty was very hard to put down, I found myself reading it on my way to school, in school and on my way from school. It was extremely gripping from the first page and it was a clear indication that I was going to love it. Victoria's writing was beyond amazing, she has this way of throwing information at you without confusing you. It was the first fantasy or second (after HP) that didn't completely confuse me with all the details. 

On the downside, speaking of fantasy, I had a strong urge to call that book a dystopia. It felt like a dystopia most of the time, but still a fantasy. Relating to that point, it is basically The Hunger Games meets Shatter Me in a book. I personally didn't mind that, but if you do, then this book isn't for you. Some people found similarities between Red Queen and other books like Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, Cinder by Marissa Meyer and Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas.. which I still have not read (unfortunately, soon), so this book was original to me and I haven't read anything like it before. 

The thing that bothered a lot of people, but me slightly was the world-building. It was confusing at first and I didn't know if it was me or the book, but I was watching Shasha (abookutopia on youtube)'s review for this and she has met the author. She said that the world-building was confusing to her as well and that Victoria mentioned how the world building will evolve in the second book and we'll have everything cleared out later on in the trilogy. I honestly cannot wait, this is torturous. 

This book killed my idea of trust (which was already dead), not going to say why though because this belongs in the spoiler section. I didn't realize I was spoiled for this book up until the very last chapter, so TAKE CARE. Again, another indication of a great book is that I knew the ending and I loved every second of it, I was still surprised by it though because it was executed perfectly. 

I loved the family aspect in this one, it reminded me of Katniss and her family. Mare was a strong, kick-ass character that I admired. She is now one of my all time favorite female protagonists, because she always kept a straight head, meaning she didn't let love and other trivial things fog her vision or stand in the way of her survival along with her family's. She was just like Katniss and I LOVED that, some people may not though.. It depends.. 

Disclaimer: I will not mention the male protagonists in this spoiler free review, I'll discuss them with you down below so GO READ THE BOOK and come back for the discussion. Mostly, I loved every single character in this except for a few.

My dearest Mare, oh how I love you and Cal together. I cannot lie though, I liked her with Kilorn at first.. but (Mal?) made me fangirl. I was waiting for them to be together

 and rebel against the queen and king the whole time, but wow, what a strange turn of events.

I liked the name "The Scarlet Guard" so much, and when I realized Shade was with them, my mouth dropped to the ground. When we read about Shade's death, I was almost 100% positive that he was alive. AND HE WAS, in the epilogue I actually patted my own back hahaha and dude, his power is super amazing! I love it and cannot wait for more Shade in the other books.

Firstly, let me state that I was spoiled for the Maven betrayal and it killed me when I realized that I was spoiled for the ending, so dear whoever spoiled me on goodreads, SCREW YOU. I still enjoyed the book nonetheless, the way that Victoria laid everything out took me by surprise; I didn't expect that the king would die.. and to be killed by his own son under the influence of his wife, BRUTAL. 

Now let's talk about Maven.. Maven, Maven, Maven. Due to the stupid spoiler, I was extremely wary of his actions throughout the whole book, so I didn't fall for his lies. I didn't believe him when he was sweet with Mare, I didn't believe him when he joined TSG. It was fishy to me all along, but I'm not Sherlock Holmes, I was fucking spoiled. 

I never once disliked Cal, even when he was a black-hearted monster in the arena, he is the future king (supposedly), he should be this good and have no mercy for the opponents. It's ABC war tactics (I believe). I loved Julian and Lucas, they gave me hope for the silvers, they were sweet to Mare, even though she was a red. Julian in specific, I'm so interested in his back story with -Sarah? that's her name?- and his sister, Cal's mom. A NOVELLA PLEASE. On that note, Victoria talked about a novella in the works on twitter, fingers crossed. 

Evangeline, we shall not speak of that evil bitch. Throughout this whole novel I was like..

The ending bugged me, Maven convincing Mare that Cal loves her and to put everything at stake like that.. NO, just NO!! The only time that Mare was naive.. I admired Cal even more for not sacrificing his freaking country for love, he would've been an amazing king. 


Now with The Hunger Games similarities that I personally found.. but wasn't bothered all that much about: 

• Gisa = Primrose Everdeen
• Kilorn = Gale
• Using Mare to be the face of the rebellion/revolution  = Katniss being the mockingjay
• The kingdom using her as a distraction = The Capitol using Katniss as a distraction
• Kilorn joining The Scarlet Guard against Mare's will = Gale joining the revolution against Katniss's will 
• Silvers in training = Tributes in training 
• Silvers fighting in arenas = THE ARENA 
• Maven being good with words = Peeta making people believe everything he says and his ability to speak to a crowd. 

Again these similarities didn't bother me one bit, but whenever I was reading, I was reminded of THG.

Book Review: Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Lux #5)

Besides Origin, this book was my second favorite. Obsidian is still my favorite as well, there are too many good books in this series and it is extremely compelling.

I cannot go into details with this since this is the last book in a series, but if you're looking for a truly compelling young adult paranormal romance, this is definitely your pick! Katy and Daemon are my favorite couple ranking first next to Edward and Bella so.. if that's not an indication of how good this series is, then I don't know what is. 

This was a fast-paces book that I have read in two sittings, yes I was that desperate to know what's coming next. Don't judge. The thing that kept me on edge is that you don't see things coming, I was dumbfounded the whole time I was reading this book and JLA made me think that the logical thing was something and she surprised me with a totally different thing at the end. It killed your expectations and I loved that! It kept the surprise element going. 

One thing I disliked was that by the end of Opposition, it was hard to make a distinction between Kat and Daemon's POVs maybe because I was delusional because it was 9 am.. maybe, just maybe. Did anyone else think that? 

My rating order for these books: 

1. Origin
2. Opposition
3. Obsidian
4. Opal
5. Onyx

Of course, I gave them all five out of five stars, but some were just better for me than the others.. 

I'll dive into the spoilers right away, just do yourself a favor and read this book!

SPOILERS START HERE, HIGHLIGHT TO VIEW.

This book starts off incredibly creepy, I was so confused and worried when the Blacks went missing. When Archer and Katy were getting Beth her medicine, I was speechless. The bad Luxen were lashing out on humans and everything in me urged Archer and Katy to leave! Kat was dumb saving the kid; there were thousands of kids being killed at this point, but I would've done the same thing if I was in her place (thank God I'm not). Jennifer L. Armentrout has this way of making you firmly believe in things and then tell you casually that it's not the truth; like with the Luxen. I truly thought they were the good aliens and the Arum were the bad ones, but no, they both have the good and the bad. Another one of JLA's revelations was Katy and Daemon being "not connected", I put down my book for a second with a gaping mouth. The realization hit me that she will pull an "Allegiant" on us (if you know what I mean). 

Every word that came out of Daemon in the beginning shattered my heart into a million pieces, their relationship was taking an amazing turn and it hurt because I thought it came to an end. When Daemon kicked Quincy's ass, I was ecstatic! A part of me believed that Daemon would never turn against Katy, but the other part thought that he was as brainwashed as Dee was. I was thankful for the dual POV, or I would never have known what Daemon's intentions really were and to be honest, I loved reading from Daemon's perspective more than Kat's.

One of my favorite scenes was when Katy flipped over the limo when Sadi turned out to be a freaking Origin! No one saw this coming, I was thinking the whole time reading this part that the doors to hell flew open and something terrible was going to happen. Daemon and Dawson were dumb to think that they were safe discussing escaping in a house full of mind-reading Luxen and maybe some Origins. The encounter with Daedalus again was strangely a relief, I would have done anything for them to be safe from other bad Luxen for now, I knew they would beat Daedalus' asses and get out anyways. 

Nancy's presence didn't annoy me as much as it did with everyone else, she is a human, why couldn't they simply snap her neck into two?! Why did it take them so long to kill her?!! I did not get this. 

The whole time I was reading this book I was thinking, WHERE ARE THE ARUM? They would end this whole bad Luxen going crazy in a matter of days. When Daemon said it, I was like "Thank you!!". How did this not cross anyone's mind? 

The juxtaposition of a Luxen - Daemon and a (former) human - Katy vs. an Arum - Hunter and a human - Serena was amazing. I loved how JLA made us see the different POVs of two alien species that despised each other. I also loved seeing Daemon and Katy being surprised that an Arum can end up with a human and actually fall in love with one. They believed for so long that an Arum is a cold, senseless creature and they were wrong. 

My Lotho

Meeting Lotho gave me the chills, I immediately pictured him as this villain from The Powerpuff Girls and please don't ask why. I thought he had the same intimidating face but with a muscular body and the Opal sewed in with his skin. When he asked to feed off Katy I was like "Uh-oh" and I was eager to see Daemon's reaction which was exactly the way I expected it to be. Have you seen this villain on the right laugh? That is how I imagined Lotho's laugh to be. I can't believe that they almost fought over a stupid person playing with their emotions and seeing how far they'd go. Honestly, I was surprised that he asked because I expected him to do it anyways if he really wanted to, which should've been an indication that he was playing them, it wasn't really the right time for games.

Hunter was my favorite new character in this book, along with General Jonathan Eaton. The aspect that the General's daughter's fiance was a Luxen made me so happy, I had a tiny flick of hope inside of me that the world can accept other species as well and life would be normal again. 

When Katy was eager to see her mother, I knew that she was dead in an instant. Katy's mistake was having such high expectations that everything would go back to square one, but I guess that she didn't let reality sink in. She was holding on to a fragment of hope that she wouldn't lose the only family she had and that is what made her mother's death hurt us readers, how she hoped with everything in her that her mother would make it out alive. My mouth dropped open when she saw her mom washing the dishes, I thought it was Katy's imagination running wild, but it turned out to be a Luxen! This was extremely low of Ethan. I despised the man so much that I almost cried in joy when Katy killed him off! I didn't think that an Origin master-mind would die from a stupid weapon, but apparently, it wasn't so stupid.. 

The horror that is Daemon being shot had me in tears, I was incredibly speechless that I couldn't shout at them for not killing Nancy earlier and Daemon not fulfilling the promise he made in the previous books that he would end up her life and ironically, Nancy ending his. If Daemon was dead, I would have sunk in my tears and hated this series, it wasn't the perfect ending I wanted, but JLA didn't disappoint. The conclusion of the series was more perfect than I have ever imagined, I liked the Archer/Dee relationship going on and I loved baby Ashley. I can totally see Dawson and Beth as parents and it made me so warm inside. When I picked up this series, I've heard rumors about Daemon and Katy having a baby and I was anticipating the news till the end of the book. I also kept track of their condom usage like an obsessive creep throughout the whole series. 

I liked the transition of nice Dee to bitch Dee, even though I hated how she treated Katy, but at least it was a confirmation that every good person had a bad inside them, just like the Yin and Yang and it's my view on life and people in general. 

JLA's writing was fluid and easy, she had a twisted way of not meeting your expectations and I loved it! Can we just give her a round of applause for her witty Daemon comments and Archer's humor? The books made me laugh out loud a lot and I appreciated that when I was having bad days. Can we also appreciate the pop culture references? Great job JLA! It's what every reading is looking for in a book, relatable characters, references to the real world that we live in and a compelling world building.

Book Review: Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Lux #4)

Origin is extremely action packed and fun to read. It's by far my favorite book in the series, it didn't have a boring second, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading this. 

Daemon and Katy are my favorite fictional couple and I'm in love with Daemon. The romance is on point and I felt jealous the whole time!

So, Archer, I was completely convinced that Archer was Daemon the whole time and that he took the form of a trusted man inside of Mount Weather to protect Katy. I came to the realization that that was not the case when Daemon was in the elevator with Archer, but Daemon was seriously so smart. He knew that this place is Area 51 because he came here before and that made my heart jump with excitement. 

Kat was holding up well, but she was seriously dumb to kill Blake; she knew that he was goading her. She shouldn't have lost her cool, but can we blame her? No. She has went through some crappy time and she has reached her maximum tolerant level, they pushed her way too far. 

One thing that got on my nerves was Daemon not admitting to loving Katy at first, but he got over that towards the end of the book and I loved every second of the Daemon/Katy time they had together. It gave my heart the fuzzies. Their love is purely beautiful and I would like to thank Jennifer L. Armentrout for setting extremely high expectations that non-fictional guys won't ever live up to! Daemon is all what I want in a guy and he isn't real -- at least to some people, to me, he totally is real..

Archer was a bad-ass, he had this eerie demeanor. He was friendly and intended to help them, I was so blessed that Luc was truthful. Unleashing the Origins wasn't a smart idea, they still don't fully know what Origins are capable of and how they would react to their surroundings on their own and not in a confined area. I still don't quite get why didn't the Origins destroy Mount Weather along with Dasher and Nancy? Daedalus would be over so that Daemon and Katy would have one less thing to worry about. 

Did anyone else expect Beth being pregnant? I knew right the second Katy said:

  "She didn't look just tired; she looked absolutely exhausted."

and when Dawson said: 

 "Eat," he said quietly to her. "You need to ear at least two of these."

  She laughed softly. "I don't know about two." 

It was so obvious that I smirked when Dawson dropped the bomb on Daemon. I just can't wrap my head around one thing though, why would Daedalus let go of Dawson and Bethany when the mutation was perfect? Didn't they want some more Origins? 

Luc still haven't asked Daemon for a favor, remember when they first saw Luc and he asked Katy and Daemon for a favor in exchange for bringing down the security system for them? Was the LH-11 his huge favor? What is Luc going to do with it anyways? I thought it will really go downhill from there. And it did..

Matthew was the last person I would expect to betray them, I was hurt beyond repair. His reasons were stupid, that explains how he freaked out and was angry when both Kat and Daemon were getting married, he thought they escaped. 

The best part of this whole entire book was the part where they exposed themselves, I still can't believe they did that. Why did Jennifer kill off the rest of the Thompsons and Paris? Their loss actually hurt, even if I didn't like them all that much. I grew a bond to these characters, of course I get that she couldn't kill off Beth nor Luc and Ash was better off dead anyway, since her brother was. The moment Paris was dead, I thought Luc was too. I believed that Paris was his father or something, I don't understand their relationship.. I forgot that Luc was an Origin -- not a hybrid for a second. 

Overall, this was such a great book, I loved every second of it. My depression level rose to the roof, yes; because Daemon is my kind of guy and I'm extremely jealous of Katy, but I love the two together.

I put off writing this review and I jumped right into Origin, and I have finished it. So, I'm quite forgetful of some parts, it isn't as fresh in my mind. I will try my best nonetheless.

Let's jump tight into the SPOILERS. If you haven't read this book, do not view the following:

Katy was so annoying at the beginning of this, she decided in a whim that she'll dish to both Carissa and Lesa about Dawson and it got on my nerves. The thing about these books it that they are incredibly hilarious, I love it when Daemon kept calling Blake "Biff" and what's with him getting into bed with Katy!? That was super creepy!!

The ending was kind of predictable for me, I knew deep inside that Daedalus let Dawson escape so he'd come back for Beth with more Luxen, I didn't expect that Katy was the one they'd wanted to lure Daemon in with. It's either they capture them all or none, this is so upsetting! I didn't even think that this was worth getting Beth back for, Beth escaped a lot and it shouldn't be Katy's turn, they could've waited for Beth to escape instead of going in to get her. Blake wasn't the trustworthy kind, I knew that he was drawing them in so they can help him take Chris and leave. 

The whole Carissa thing still is a mystery to me, who on Earth mutated her? As soon as I knew she was sick, I knew that she was being mutated. Even if, why would she go after Kat? It was a Daedalus move, but why did Carissa attack her best friend? Why would Kat put the Opal on her chest?! She was going into Mount Weather, It's filled with Daedalus people who are the owners of the Opal she's wearing. Of course something wrong was bound to happen, she basically was giving them the Opal on a silver platter.

The covers are seriously annoying, not only that they're ugly, but the whole time I was reading Opal, I had this thing inside of me that suspected that Katy was going to die. My reasons are, 1- She kept talking about her future with Daemon and that is a always a sign of dying. 2- Origin's cover is only Daemon. Katy isn't with him and I should've thought this through, because if Katy died, Daemon would've died too. 

Now on the good side of things, prom was amazing! It was my favorite part of the whole entire book. I'm glad Daemon and Katy got to be intimate before she was taken away from him!! I was happy with where their relationship was going and it was growing everyday.. I teared up at the ending, when Daemon finally admitted that he loved Katy! This is extremely unfair. Blake is an asshole, though. He literally deserves to die.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something... unexpected happens. 

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. 

If I don't kill him first, that is.

I knew I'd love this book since the very first page, Katy is a book blogger (relatable). She moved to West Virginia with her mother after her father dies. They happen to have moved opposite to a house with two alien sibilings, Dee and Daemon. 
Dee is a bubbly and a fun character, her loyalty and her love towards Katy are amazing characteristics, on the other hand, Daemon is arrogant and snobby. He is a complete douche and Katy can't seem to resist his charm. This whole book is about an almost forbidden love story between an alien and a human, it's beautiful in every way possible.. 

One thing I loved about Obsidian are the conversations exchanged between Daemon and Katy, they are witty and sarcastic and you can sense the tension between these two. Unlike everyone else, I actually didn't hate Daemon, I admired him and I liked how much of a jerk he was ( I have a think for jerks idk).

I couldn't help but compare Obsidian to Twilight; the parallels are way too much. I compare Daemon to Edward, Katy to Bella and Dee to Alice. There are also some other parallels, but these belong in the spoiler section. 
This is definitely a 5 star kind of book and I would recommend it to everyone, I genuinely can't wait to read the rest of the books.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! It was funny, and adorable. I loved so many scenes.. my favorite was when Katy and Daemon were trying to make the trace fade *winky face* these two are beyond adorable and I wanted them to cave in to their feelings so badly, I want them to be together asap. 

Daemon being a jerk was adorable, he cared for her and beyond his shown hatred, he actualy likes Katy and it shows in everything he does. It's understandable that he doesn't want his sister to get hurt, she's the only thing he has left. I know that he sometimes pushed it; for example the cafeteria scene was so saddening. I expected Daemon to defend Katy, and what's up with Ash being a bitch anyways? I wanted to slap her so hard and when Katy poured the spaghetti on both of their heads, I wanted to applaud her.

Katy is a good person, it's amazing how far she would go to protect Dee, she daggered an Arum and she sacrificed her life for the sake of Dee.. no one does that anymore. 

Twilight parallels: 

• Dee reminds me of Alice
• The Cullens being vampires and pairing from within the family = the Aliens 
• Lesa reminds me of Jessica (Anna Kendrick)
• The shopping for dresses part reminds me of Twilight when they went shopping for dresses as well.
• Mr. Garrison also reminds me of Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli) 
• When Daemon stopped the truck before hitting Katy, images of Edward stopping the truck before hitting Bella with his bare hands.

Am I imagining this or is it extremely similar to twilight, but instead of vampires it's aliens?

Can I just say how much I loved Daemon's POV? More PLEASE! I would love to see his POV merged in with hers in the other books. 

I wonder what will happen next? Will she become a Luxen or.. ?
