Book Review: Since You've Been Gone by Mary Jennifer Payne

Is it possible to outrun your past? Fifteen-year-old Edie Fraser and her mother, Sydney, have been trying to do just that for five years. Now, things have gone from bad to worse. Not only has Edie had to move to another new school she's in a different country.
Sydney promises her that that this is their chance at a fresh start, and Edie does her best to adjust to life in London, England, despite being targeted by the school bully. But when Sydney goes out to work the night shift and doesn't come home, Edie is terrified that the past has finally caught up with them. Alone in a strange country, Edie is afraid to call the police for fear that she ll be sent back to her abusive father. Determined to find her mother, but with no idea where to start, she must now face the most difficult decision of her life."

I would start of this review by mentioning that I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I hurt while reading this book, I hurt for Edie and her mother. I hurt for Jermaine who you get to encounter later on in the book. It was a beautiful tragedy.

This book is about a girl who is living with her mother and they're on the run because her abusive father is on the hunt for them. She gets to go to a new school in London, a new city and everything is just so new to get used to. She starts her first day by being terribly bullied and what really annoyed me was that she was a bully herself to another 10th grader in her homeroom.. Imogen.

It's a good book, I love experiencing characters' pain and struggle, Edie suffers a lot and there was one person she actually opened up to and it makes me feel so warm inside to actually witness her opening up to someone, which actually proves a theory of mine; if you love someone beyond boundaries you automatically feel attached to them and your wall will immediately be knocked out so you can let them in. It's beautiful.

One thing I didn't like about this book is that it was too short, I really wanted to live in Edie's world more and experience it, I wanted to feel her mom's character more and to see Edie and her mom bond on another level. That is a very minor step-back that not everyone will experience though. I just love getting deeply connected to a character.

Since You've Been Gone is an extremely fast-paced book, I've conquered it in a day or even less. Mary Jennifer Payne's writing is so beautiful and you will just fly through it..

I recommend this book to everybody, I guarantee that you'll love it! :)x

Have a great day bookworms.
