TAG | Unpopular Book Opinions

This tag is originally created by TheBookArcher on Youtube.

1. A Popular Book or series that you didn't like.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Please don't kill me. I had my reasons, okay? I still hadn't read Harry Potter when I started this book. This and the fact that I despise fan fiction to no end. I can't read any fan fiction, it gets on my nerves, so I ended up skipping the fan fiction parts and that is probably what made the book less interesting to me. On the plus side, I looove Rainbow Rowell and Eleanor and Park is my favorite by her. I still need to pick up the rest of her books though, I know I will in the near future, so don't kill me.

2. A Popular Book or series that every one else seems to hate but you love.

Twilight, I know.. again. hahaha
It's just that while everyone else was reading Harry Potter, I was totally against it and was indulging in the beauty of Edward and Bella's relationship and forbidden love. I seriously look back at my 10 year old self and think 'WHY?!' I was so into Nicholas Sparks and love stories.. I have NO interest in these now. It's strange how a person's taste can completely change like that with growing up. It makes me eager to see myself in a couple of years and whether my taste will drastically change or not.

3. A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don't like.

Gosh, Katniss and Peeta. I don't like this relationship AT ALL. I don't understand how people hate Gale and don't want them to be together.. like why?!! I'm always rooting for the first love (except for Warnette, if you know what I mean). Also, I feel like everyone has read The Hunger Games, if not, what are you doing with your life? GO READ IT NOW.. preferably after reading the rest of this blog post. hahaha

4. A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for.

I hardly ever read any crime books. Like Agatha Christie/ Stephen King kind of books. I need to get on that soon, maybe I'll like them more, who knows? Other than that, I love all genres. Books are awesome man.

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.

Abby Abernathy from Beautiful Disaster. That book was great, I must admit, but Abby?! Agh she frustrated me to no end. I wanted to bitch slap her with the book the whole time! Why why Jamie McGuire?! Why create such a dislikable character? (That I personally disliked, and everybody else seems to love)

6. A popular author that you can't seem to get into.

Maggie Stiefvater. I know what you're thinking! But I have an explanation. I've tried reading Shiver. TWICE. I failed. I didn't pay attention to the writing as much as I despised the series and you can say that I have no interest in picking it up ever again.
Nonetheless, I need to give her Raven Cycle quartet a try. Everyone raves about these books and they seem really interesting because of an amazing story line. And maybe then I can change my opinion regarding Maggie and her books. Shiver was probably a bad one to start with, wasn't it?

7. A popular book trope that you're tired of seeing. (examples "lost princess", corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)

Love triangles. Agh. Let me count the endless love triangles that I know exist in books.

  1. THG
  2. Twilight
  3. Throne of Glass
  4. Falling Kingdoms
  5. Red Queen
  6. The Vampire Diaries
  7. Shatter Me
Need I say more? I mean why do authors feel the need to incorporate a love triangle into their books? I'm sure the book would do just fine if they were character driven with a great plot line. THERE IS NO NEED FOR A LOVE TRIANGLE. It's just very much overdone in the YA genre.

8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.

Either Vampire Academy by Rachelle Mead or The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. They are both very long series and I can't seem to commit to reading them. And I personally feel like these books are overrated enough and I don't feel the need to read books based on how popular they are. I like reading book that interest me, so I wouldn't pick up a 7 book series because somebody else loved it and I have a feeling I won't. Also The Selection by Kiera Cass, I would have given it a chance if it was a trilogy, but the fourth book just came out and I think it's a

9. The saying goes "The book is always better than the movie", but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

With that, I have to give it to The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. See? I told you I pretty much read most of his books when I was 10-15..
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are my number 1 OTP to this very moment, other than thinking Liam is a jerk, but he's a hot jerk and I loved them together SO much! I couldn't not love the movie more than the book. Don't get me wrong, it was a very good book, but THE MOVIE HAS MIAM. (Sorry for being a hardcore fangirl, ironic because I didn't like 'Fangirl', haha)

Do you agree with anything that I've said AT ALL? hahaa, if so, tell me in the comments below and feel free to do this tag as well. I found it to be extremely fun to do and I loved the questions. :)

Have an amazing day everybody!♥

  1. Oh Jay, you had me laughing a few times through this post. I can relate to your point on Twilight - I don't know what I would think now, but when I first read them I thought they were the best thing I'd ever read. And considering I'd hardly read any YA at that stage, that kind of makes sense.
Oh you should definitely give Maggie Stiefvater another chance! I haven't read Shiver yet, because I've heard mixed things, but I've read The Raven Boys and once I got into it (which admittedly took a long time), I really enjoyed it. But I'm also currently reading The Scorpio Races and I'm LOVING it.

  2. OHh, I shall cover my eyes for the Maggie Stiefvater part because she's my favourite author of...ever. But, hehe. Not every book is for everyone! And, zomg, Red Queen had such a confusing romantic plot, right?! I would count it as a love square though!! Since Mare had the 2 princes and the boy from her home town (gawsh, I don't remember any of their names...was Maven one? GAH.) But yes I basically skip all l love triangles if I can because they frustrate me a LOT. However, I do have ones I love! Like in Splintered and The Hunger Games and Half Bad. :')
