COB just doesn't appeal to me, but because of my Readers Choice poll, I now have to pick it up lol. I finally caved and got The Selection because sooo many blogger's who's opinion I trust read and actually enjoyed ALL 3 books, so you know what . . . I'm going to give it a try! Hush, Hush is a book I'll never read either, along with Matched and ANY Danielle Steel book. Girl I've heard amazing things about Shadow & Bone so I can't wait until I have time to read it. I honestly can't stop laughing at your rant about After lmao.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04996995361383050875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-76353407586725148752015-05-07T20:28:35.563-07:002015-05-07T20:28:35.563-07:00Oh gosh Jay! I almost couldn't believe it when...Oh gosh Jay! I almost couldn't believe it when I saw City of Bones as the first one. I love the series but I do understand where you're coming from. I have the same issue with Vampire Academy (despite all the recommendations and hype, I know I'm never gonna start with those books). It's just so hard to commit and get into a big series. Specially when it's already finished. But it's good that you're still going to read the Infernal Devices. I think it's way better than the Mortal Instruments.

As for the Selection series. I did read the first three books, and they were a disaster. It could have been way better. And I don't even get why they extended the series. So, yeah don't read them. Not really worth it.

And oh, Matched... It's too late for me, but save yourself! Don't read it. My best friend read the trilogy and loved it. She kept recommending them to, so I gave the first book a try. And it was too hard to finish. She said it gets better. So I gave the second book a try. Not. Worth. It. Definitely not finishing this trilogy and no longer accepting her recommendations, haha.

And I definitely agree with you on After. I know girls who are years younger than me and yet they brag so much about having read 50 Shades of Grey. I think it's just wrong for teenagers to be reading about these kind of things. I've been called old fashion because of this but that doesn't change the fact that books like these degrade the image of women. And that's not the kind of message you would want to send to the younger generations.

This is a really great post Jay :D

The Reading IzzyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-26029465963234859452015-05-07T07:55:47.277-07:002015-05-07T07:55:47.277-07:00Oh God. There are so many good books out there and I wish that kind of meant more to more young teenagers. If I had a 14 year-old daughter I would not want her to read this book. Like one direction sexual fanfiction? WHY is this even being published as a book?

<a href="http://cucie-reads.blogspot.no/> Cucie @ Cucie reads . Selection and Shadow and Bone I keep seeing great things about haha, I haven't heard of the others but I'll be sure not to pick them up if I ever cross them again haha :-) Interesting picks! Have a great day :-)Emmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00105184914009977561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-2133143213240419322015-05-06T09:54:55.912-07:002015-05-06T09:54:55.912-07:00Oh my gosh, I love Vampire Academy and The Mortal ...Oh my gosh, I love Vampire Academy and The Mortal Instruments! You should give them a chance! I've read the first books in the series and they're amazing, but to be honest, I don't think I will be reading the rest! They're good on their own!

The only other book I've read on this list is Hush, Hush and honestly it wasn't that amazing. You're not missing out on much by not reading it!

I'm inclined to read The Selection and Matched, simply because I love their covers! But like you I am a bit fed up with dystopian novels so I might leave them for a while!

Serena / www.ramblingsofanotherunistudent.blogspot.com

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-80821302161885515612015-05-05T19:36:23.265-07:002015-05-05T19:36:23.265-07:00I liked the first three Mortal Instruments books, ...I liked the first three Mortal Instruments books, but I loathed 4 & 5, which is why I never ended up finishing this series, despite owning all of the books. :(

I'm not a big dystopian fan myself, but I did like the writing in The Selection, and it definitely didn't seem like a dystopian read. It read more like contemporary. But there was hardly any substance in this book and I pretty much wanted to stab all of the characters at one point...

I enjoyed Shadow & Bone a lot. If you're into fantasy with fabulous world-building, definitely give this book a shot. I haven't picked up the sequel yet, though!

Vampire Academy is one of my favorite series! But I get why you don't want to read it though. And I'm having trouble committing to the spin-off, Bloodlines, as well. :(

You can pass off The Young Elites (it was disappointing for me), but definitely read Legend! That series is full of crazy emotions, especially with the last book.

Hush, Hush had better world-building than some other angel books, but the characters were absolutely infuriating!

I DNFed Shiver as well! But somewhere near the end, I think. I just couldn't take any more and I had to chuck the book across the room. Sorry, book.

I'm only fifteen and I'm completely okay with reading adult books. As long as the teen is mature enough to handle the books, I don't see why they can't. I've been reading adult since 2012, and I was only twelve/thirteen then. But I understand why you wouldn't want your sister near these books.

Thanks for sharing, Jay!

Aimee @ Deadly DarlingsAimee (Aimee, Always)https://www.blogger.com/profile/12987337914677408281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-50660503270343065882015-05-05T17:52:53.059-07:002015-05-05T17:52:53.059-07:00So relieved to hear that you will still be trying ...So relieved to hear that you will still be trying The Infernal Devices - it's one of my top favourites.
Just as something for you to consider... the dystopian side of The Selection takes a backseat to the romantic drama.
Shadow and Bone is one of my favourites too! But I can understand if the concept doesn't appeal to you.
I think I am the only person on the planet who actually didn't hate Hush, Hush lol! Although I can say that I can't see you enjoying it.
I'd never heard of After until today, and I think I'm worse off for it ahaha.Sabrinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15762635239865326562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-40027890099670760772015-05-05T15:39:27.285-07:002015-05-05T15:39:27.285-07:00We seem to be on the same wave length here Jayy. :...We seem to be on the same wave length here Jayy. :D I absolutely loathed The Selection, Matched, Hush, Hush and City of Bones, and I think you're making a wise choice by not reading them. There's nothing much in those books that you'll miss by not reading them anyway. ;) Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! ♥

~ Zoe @ Stories on StageZoe N.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08980248647201093593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-60665329231866491932015-05-05T12:08:11.013-07:002015-05-05T12:08:11.013-07:00I loved Hush, Hush (hated Black Ice!) but was disa...I loved Hush, Hush (hated Black Ice!) but was disappointed by The Mortal Instruments series and Matched.Jess (A Book Addict's Bookshelves)https://www.blogger.com/profile/11124656823477912821noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-80136739865460819082015-05-05T10:27:04.462-07:002015-05-05T10:27:04.462-07:00YES YES AND YES! Why isn't there a like button...YES YES AND YES! Why isn't there a like button when you need one?! I Definitely couldn't have said it any better. I'm a huge feminist and when it comes to girls being treated as sex toys with zero self-esteem and self-respect, it's just a huge red flag! and the fact that it's encouraging young girls to be okay with such things and their opinions on Christian Grey.. NO. I honestly thought about picking up the books after seeing the movie for the first one so I can thoroughly judge it (I'm having a debate about them with my best friend and her come back is that I haven't read the rest of the series, which in her opinion is better than the first book), but I couldn't get myself to do it. I don't want to throw my time to waste reading shitty books when I could be reading AMAZING books that I'd love and cherish forever. You feel me? hahaha and yes! The author's writing is like the writing of a 5 year old. I laughed out loud while reading this and I was 12 back then. - I promise I put it down because I was horrified by the horrid sex scenes

Yes, I feel like they're not like Harry Potter where I can read them whenever and they never get old. I feel like they were good series to pick up back then, but not now. I totally understand! You make perfect sense hahaha

AGH I hate when that happens, I always spoil myself on things. I couldn't be mad at anyone, but myself so I act ignorant and keep convincing myself that no, this probably won't happen. (I spoiled myself on Allegiant, if you know what I mean, hahaha)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04960073948185616106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-25856043595981245162015-05-05T09:42:44.275-07:002015-05-05T09:42:44.275-07:00Okay, I agree on most of these books. Especially A...Okay, I agree on most of these books. Especially After. That should not be considered literature, as well as 50 Shades. I've read the latter, the entire trilogy actually, but I'm aware it's pure crap and nobody should take it seriously. Those books romanticize abusive relationships and just no. I mean, of course you can read whatever the hell you want but hearing so many girls (between 12 and 15) saying their goal in life is to find someone like Christian Grey, just makes me sad because it is. Period. I read the books to see what the hype was about and I want the time I spent doing it back. Of course, now I can judge the series perfectly well and don't feel bad about it. I don't like bashing books or authors but I can't really hold myself with this one. It is indeed the shittiest thing out there and I don't even get why those books were published. Also, the are so horribly written and I don't think an editor went through those books and if she/he did, she/he was deluded.
The Mortal Instruments and The Vampire Academy are two of my favourite series but I get why you don't wanna commit to them. It's completely understandable. I found The Vampire Academy series four years ago but being honest, if I went into a bookstore now and found the books, I wouldn't pick them up either. I don't know if I make any sense LOL
And I've also read Shadow and Bone and it was freaking fantastic. My problem came with the second book because I was basically spoiled about the end (by myself. Yeah, I know... I'm stupid) and it ruined the book for me and then I was just mad with the last book because it didn't end it as I wanted to hahahahaNoelia Alonsohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15995117581573105992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2446106934658048935.post-18349534167270784172015-05-05T09:21:44.692-07:002015-05-05T09:21:44.692-07:00THANK GOD! TMI I'm also hesitant about, maybe after reading TID?
Definitely not, what's up with fan-fiction being published anyways?!
